The Magners League - Time to Play
The Magners League continues to grow from strength to strength; with the standard of rugby on the pitch and level of passion in the stands making the League one of the top domestic Northern Hemisphere rugby competitions.
The Ospreys were crowned champions of the inaugural Magners League season on 12 May 2007, the final day of the season, courtesy of a 24-16 win over Border Reivers at Netherdale after both Leinster and Cardiff Blues had come up just short with their challenge. Season 2007/08 lived up to all expectations with teams vying for the title.

According to Celtic Rugby Director, David Jordan, “The continued growth of the competition has been helped no doubt by the higher profile brought about by Magners’ commitment to invest substantially in all countries involved in Celtic Rugby. The Magners League is one of the leading competitions in world rugby, and we feel that, like our title sponsor, we have an attractive product which people enjoy.”
The kick-off of Magners League Season 2007 / 08 heralded a new advertising campaign for Magners. Shot on location in the magnificent Bulmers orchards in Clonmel, Co. Tipperary, ‘Time to Play’ shows us just how seriously rugby is taken in the orchards, particularly when the Orchard Manager’s back is turned! Starring real Bulmers employees and players from the local Rugby Club, the epic soundtrack to the commercial “Orchard Charge“was composed by Ian Smith.
Maurice Breen, Marketing Director, Magners states that “The continued success and growth of the Magners League has been helped by Magner's commitment to invest substantially in the League, including developing new outdoor and TV commercials that promote the 'Time to Play' message.
Week in, week out, Irish fans brave the elements to cheer on their provincial clubs. Many of these fans are the same ones who come out to cheer on their own local team – the nurturing grounds for most of our current Magners League players.
As we approach the end of yet another exciting season, Magners League would like to pay a special thank-you and tribute to all these fans whose enthusiasm is key to making rugby in Ireland the great game that it is.
